Yorkshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first class county clubs within the ECB. Founded in 1863, the club later competed in the inaugural 1890 County Championship season going onto win the first-ever match against Gloucestershire. This result ultimately set in motion for Yorkshire to become the most successful team in English cricketing history. Having won their last title in 2015, Yorkshire have won a staggering 33 County Championships, 11 more than second placed Surrey.
Yorkshire play their home matches at the internationally renowned Headingley Cricket Ground. With a capacity of over 18,000 Headingley is the fifth largest cricket ground in England and has been a consistent venue for both international and domestic fixtures.
Since the club’s inception, Yorkshire has had the privilege of having numerous periods of success. Under the captaincy of Lord Hawke, Yorkshire dominated English cricket winning 8 County Championships in 15 years. More recently under the captaincy of Andrew Gale and the coaching of Australian legend Jason Gillespie, Yorkshire enjoyed back to back Championships in 2014 and 2015. A possible 3 peat was ended on the final day as Middlesex ended Yorkshire’s unbeaten year to claim the 2016 title.
Overall, while Yorkshire CCC has faced challenges both on and off the field in recent years, the club remains an important and influential institution in English cricket, with a rich history and a commitment to developing talent and competing at the highest level.
